VIDEO: Mass brawl halts Pretoria schoolboy rugby clash
What should have been another showcase of schoolboy rugby turned into one of the most shocking scenes of the season after a mass brawl forced the Virseker Noordvaal Cup clash between Hoërskool Menlopark and Hoërskool Dr. E.G. Jansen to be abandoned.
With Menlopark leading 36-5, chaos erupted on the sidelines as a large-scale altercation involving schoolchildren and parents brought the match to an abrupt end.
Videos of the incident quickly spread across social media, with the footage drawing widespread attention and sparking debate throughout the South African rugby community.
According to Die Papier, Thinus Diedericks, chairman of the Noordvaal Schools Rugby Association, confirmed that the organisation is aware of the incident and has launched an investigation.
“Reports have already been requested from both schools and the necessary investigation will be conducted. Action will then be taken accordingly,” Diedericks said.
He also urged the public to refrain from speculating or commenting further while the matter is being investigated, although the footage had already gone viral by then.
The Noordvaal Schools Rugby Association is expected to review reports from both schools before deciding on any disciplinary action.
