Voortrekker captain: Tokkie van Zyl
Bethlehem Voortrekker head into their FNB Classic Clash with Hoërskool Witteberg this weekend unbeaten, having had nine wins and three draws and captain Tokkie van Zyl is confident his team will keep that record intact at the conclusion of the match.
Van Zyl boasts 30 first XV caps for his school and is in his second year of being the starting flyhalf.
The influential pivot has proved vital to his team's success and his efforts were rewarded when he was selected to participate in the 2014 Craven Week as well as the 2013 Academy Week.
"Playing in both those tournaments was a good experience because the level of competition, in both weeks, were good. Being unbeaten in both tournaments was also a nice achievement," he said.
Van Zyl holds an impressive goal kicking accuracy level of above 80% but says that he has the most confidence in his ability to run with the ball in order to get his team on the front foot.
Voortrekker will be heading into the clash with full confidence as they have had the better of their rivals for the last six years but the 18-year-old says he won’t be taking their opponents lightly.
"Voortrekker has been winning this contest for the last 6 years. We know it will be a hard match because Witteberg is a gutsy team who will fight until the end and won't give up until the final whistle," he added.
The playmaker expects his side to be fully focussed at training and give it their all in during the week.
"I'd like the team to keep calm this week and just train hard. We can only control our preparation and that's what we will be focussing on," he said.
The number 10 is hopeful that he can make the step-up into the professional ranks, be it locally or abroad.
