WP Trialists for National Weeks
On Wednesday at Hoërskool Bellville Western Province continue with their trials, this time in three matches against Boland teams.
Western Province have, it seems, not yet settled on teams but have the names of the trialists and their positions;
Of the trialists, Herschel Jantjies, the Paul Roos scrumhalf, was a star at the 2013 Craven Week. Also in that highly successful Western Province team were eighthman Saud Abrahams of Bishops and Gavin van den Berg of Paarl Gim.
The team has two flyhalves and two scrumhalves from Paul Roos. One down as a flyhalf is lanky Aidynn Cupido, the son of Wilfred Cupido, the outstanding Western Province centre of the 1980s. Paul Roos also have three wings and three flanks in the trials. They have 17 players in all.
Joel Paarwater, the Bishops flank, is the son of Jerome Paarwater, the Western Province flank and therefore the grandson of the great Dougie Dyers who captained the SA Federation team in many famous matches.
