AUDIO: Brannas' special message to teammates ahead of 100th cap
LISTEN to what Deon Fourie said to his younger teammates ahead of earning his 100th cap for Western Province against the Boland Cavaliers.
Fourie joined franchise legend and Currie Cup forwards coach Brok Harris as only the second player to have represented both Western Province and the Stormers on 100 occasions.
The 38-year-old Fourie has, in all likelihood, played his final match in the blue and white hopped jersey of Western Province, but has been included in the Stormers’ United Rugby Championship squad for the upcoming season.
Fourie disclosed what he told his teammates ahead of his big milestone match and shared a special message with them.
The article continues below…
“I said to the guys before [the match] in the hotel that you never know when you’re going to wear this jersey again.
“We don’t know what the future holds and whether there will be a Currie Cup [tournament] again.
“Rugby has changed a lot. You have to take this opportunity because you’re part of a group that’s a part of a great legacy of [Western] Province rugby that’s been the cornerstone of South African rugby.
“And you’ll be a part of it. Your name will be there in the history books of playing for this proud province.
“Never take it for granted. It’s not just a warm-up game. You’re still representing yourself, the team and management and everyone out there that lives and breathes the hoops.
“It’s a privilege and I’m honoured.”
