AUDIO: Lions sweating on prop injuries
LISTEN as Lions head coach Mzwakhe Nkosi speaks about the injuries two of his props suffered in their 40-19 Currie Cup victory over Western Province.
The Lions might be without the services of loosehead prop Morgan Naude and tighthead prop Heiko Pohlmann, who were both helped off the field with the aid of the medical team.
Nkosi said that the injuries appear to be less serious than initially anticipated, but that the Lions are awaiting the official prognosis from the medical team.
The article continues below…
“The initial prognosis on Heiko [Pohlmann] is good.
“He went for a concussion test. It was just the scrum pressure, so he’ll go through his HIA [head injury assessment] tests, but it sounds positive.
“Morgan [Naude], we’ll have a look at. He doesn’t have a contact injury.
“He just turned in the scrum and did himself a bit of harm.
“The surface is a bit wet underfoot, so he’ll have to go for scans.
“At the point in time, we don’t know what the extent of his injury is. It’s 50/50.
“Like I said, he turned his direction in the scrum and got a bit stuck there, so the scans will reveal the severity and extent of his injury.”
