Heyneke Meyer's Eagles secure First Division title
MATCH REPORT: The SWD Eagles claimed the Currie Cup First Division trophy after an emphatic 41-21 victory over the Valke in the Final.
It’s a remarkable turnaround for the men of George under the guidance of former Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer after finishing second last in the tournament in 2025.
The Eagles outscored the Valke by six tries to three and were tactically the better side on the evening and deserved winners.

The Valke responded through Hlomla Paya in the 17th minute under the posts as Sergio Stalmeester slotted the conversion to reduce the deficit to five points.
SWD won a breakdown penalty from the restart and opted for the corner. The decision paid off as Xavier Swartbooi crossed the line in the 20th minute. Du Toit’s conversion made the lead 19-7.
The Valke scored on halftime through Zeilinga Strydom, who crossed the whitewash under the posts, with Stalmeester adding the extras.
SWD also lost Venter to the sinbin after being warned earlier by referee Jonathan Lottering for ill-discipline in their red zone.
