Boshoff not living in the past

The Sharks may have a psychological boost over the Golden Lions, having beaten them this Currie Cup campaign already, but for Marnitz Boshoff the past does not play a part.

The Springbok flyhalf has impressed for the Lions after returning from a fractured arm (that he suffered in Round One) earlier than expected.

Boshoff has played two full games since his return, one at fullback – in the 23-26 loss against the Sharks – and one at flyhalf last weekend against the Cheetahs, where he was impressive in running the show.

"I am feeling good, the injury came on quite well, better than we though initially and I am quite happy to be on the park," Boshoff told rugby365.

"I played two 80-minute games [since the injury] so it is going very, very well.

"Flyhalf has always been my preferred position and I think Saturday, [against the Cheetahs] when I was at flyhalf, it went quite well for the team, so I am glad to be back at in that position."

The flyhalf is well aware of the dangers that the Sharks pose having been part of the losing team a fortnight ago. However, this is play-off rugby, and as such, a different matter.

"The Sharks are quite a complete side, they are the Currie Cup champions from last year so we can expect almost anything from them," Boshoff continued.

"It is a semifinal so it is any team's game. I think it comes down to the team that wants it the most, both in the semifinals and finals.

"We have had a good week of preparations so far, we still have the rest of the week to go, but I think the start of the week went really well training wise.

"We have a lot of guys who are quite keen to play in their first semifinal.

"There is a 'lekker' vibe at the union."

With a rematch lined up – this time at Ellis Park – and with training going so well, Boshoff is happy to focus on his, and the team's game rather than worrying about what the opposition could come up with.

"We just need to focus on our processes," Boshoff went on.

"If you are going to play in the semifinals you can't live in the past and worry about how they [the Sharks] played against us, we just need to play our game and do what we do, and if we can do that – all will go well for the Lions."

Boshoff seems quietly confident of the Lions' chances, but he is aware of what can happen in a semifinal.

"Hopefully all goes well, but the ball can bounce any way in the semifinal."
