Bulls front row looking thin

The Blue Bulls will be rather thin in the front row this week.

Springbok squad members Callie Visagie and Marcel van der Merwe will both miss training this week.

The Bulls are preparing for their opening match in the 2014 Currie Cup competition, against the Golden Lions in Johannesburg on August 9.

Van der Merwe has a foot injury, while Visagie has a back strain.

Roelof Smit (flank) has responded well to treatment for a quad strain and will be able to train on Thursday, Bulls team doctor Org Strauss said.

Bjorn Basson (ankle, three weeks) and Jacques du Plessis (jaw, three weeks) are also recovering well.

The long-term injury list at the Blue Bulls include Tiaan Schoeman (ankle, five weeks to his return), Pierre Spies (bicep, four months), Arno Botha (knee, four months), Frik Kirsten (neck, four months), Jaco Visagie (knee, three months) and Flip van der Merwe (knee, five months).
