Dayimani in for a world of pain against WP
CURRIE CUP SPOTLIGHT: Hacjivah Dayimani can expect a few big hits when the Golden Lions take on Western Province in a Currie Cup Round Five encounter at Ellis Park on Saturday.
The Lions No.8 has been in outstanding form in the tournament so far, scoring five tries in three matches.
The 20-year-old’s pace and power caused plenty of problems for teams this year and Province are next in the firing line.
“We will just have to keep an eye on him because he likes to run the wider channels,” said Province loose forward Kobus van Dyk.
“If you can a put a few big hits on him from the start and put him under pressure then he won’t be as influential.
“He wants space, so if you take the space away then he won’t have a big influence on the game.”
Both teams are unbeaten heading into Saturday’s encounter with the Lions five points ahead of Province in standings after playing one game more.
A win in Johannesburg will put Province on course for a strong finish in this year’s tournament. However, Province fullback SP Marais knows it will be tough against a young talented Lions team.
“They are a young team, so ignorance is bliss,” said Marais. “They are not scared to try anything, they play with a lot of confidence and especially at Ellis Park where things just seem to work for them.
“Coming from a third straight Super Rugby Final, the guys obviously want to play for the team and they want to show the coaches that they belong in Super Rugby, which is what everybody works towards.
“They are still unbeaten, so it is going to be a different challenge this week to what we had before, and it is something to look forward to.”
