Former NFL player on Sharks trial
Former Kansas City Chiefs footballer and now rugby crossover Taylor Gentry is set for a trial at the Sharks.
According to America’s Rugby News website, Gentry has signed a three-month contract with the Durban outfit.
After the cancellation of the NRFL in the United States of America (it was set to be the first professional rugby league in USA) a number of players are looking for opportunities abroad and the Sharks were quick to jump on that bandwagon.
Gentry, 25, will arrive in Durban on Monday and could be offered a full-time deal should he impress during his stay at the Sharks.
"Hopefully it all pays off," Gentry told America’s Rugby News website.
"I’ve been playing a few years now, to the point where its time for me to take a shot and see if I can hang at a higher level."
Gentry stands at 1.88 metres and clocks in at 111 kilograms and has played mostly at prop but could also feature at flank.
Gentry briefly featured for the NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs after he finished his college career at North Carolina State University.
He turned his attentions to rugby a little over three years ago.
The Sharks open their Currie Cup campaign away to the Pumas in Nelspruit on Friday.
