Human walks away from Griquas

Griquas coach Pote Human will part ways with the Kimberley side at the end of the season to take charge of the University of Pretoria.

The former Blue Bulls coach has been in charge of Griquas since 2011, taking them close to qualifying for the Currie Cup semifinals last year, but things have been much tougher in Kimberley this year as they find themselves at the bottom of the standings.

He will take over as head coach of the Varsity Cup champions on November 1 after the conclusion of the Currie Cup.

He will coach UP-Tuks in not only the Varsity Cup Competition, but in all other competitions the team takes part in, including the Carlton Cup, USSA Tournament and inter-provincial Predator Series.

He takes over from Nollis Marais (Varsity Cup) and Riaan Vorster (Carlton Cup, USSA and Predator Series).

"We are delighted to have secured the services of such a high profile and experienced coach. Pote is well known and respected in Pretoria as he is a former Blue Bulls Currie Cup Head Coach (2005/6) and also assisted current Springbok head coach Heyneke Meyer as the Bulls' Super Rugby team's forward coach from 2005 to 2008. In 2011, when UP-Tuks qualified for the Varsity Cup finals for the first team, Pote coached our pack of forwards," said TuksSport Director Kobus van der Walt.

"His first-hand knowledge and appreciation of the strong winning culture of proud tradition of Tuks as well as our important strategic partnership with the Blue Bulls will be of substantial benefit and significance to all stake holders. We have no doubt that Pote will take TuksRugby to new and even greater heights," added Van der Walt.

Human said he is humbled by his appointment.

"I am really looking forward to my return to Pretoria where I have had some of my fondest moments as a rugby coach. Coaching UP-Tuks will be an honour and privilege. I know I will have my work cut out as UP-Tuks are the current Varsity Cup pace setters and the expectations for 2014 will be high, but then, what is worth doing without being challenged to the full?"
