Kicking game let down EP
The Kings went down 25-33 to the Sharks on Saturday in what was a much improved performance from EP despite their loss.
"It is an improvement… against the Lions we had a 16 minute blitz against us where are focus wasn't there," said Janse van Rensburg at the post-match press-conference.
"We stretched the Sharks at times and we created opportunities for ourselves, but we just weren’t clinical enough.
"We didn't exit out of our own half well enough, and at times our kicking game put us under pressure.
"There were penalties that didn't find touch and aimless kicks.
"We didn't manage our kicking game very well.
EP fullback Scott van Breda left nine points on the field before half-time, miss-firing what should be regulation kicks for any goal-kicker.
Janse van Rensburg said that was an opportunity to pile pressure on the Sharks and give EP a mental edge.
"[Goal kicks are] Vitally important, its an opportunity to apply pressure on the opposition team and relieve pressure off ourselves and mentally it gives you that extra gear.
"Scott is usually pretty accurate with his boot, but tonight he was not however it is not the end of the world.
"The kicks were a big thing and would have helped to get past the finish line.
On a more positive note there were big performances from some EP players, notably No.8 Tim Agaba who gained some praise after a huge game.
"Tim played well – he is big, athletic and has a high work-rate.
"He was on song so very pleased for him.
The EP mentor highlighted that his players left everything on the field and applauded them for their efforts.
"Cant fault our players effort, there was a lot of heart on the field and I think we have taken some steps forward. The key is too keep improving every week.
"We improved defensively and on our set-pieces, some of the scrums we actually dominated and were in control.
"The guys are confident, and the belief is building.
The Kings have a few injury concerns ahead of next weekend's clash against the Pumas.
