Lions outclass Brave Griquas
Griquas started the match very strongly scoring the first try through No.8 Carel Greef, and Gouws Prinsloo slotted over the conversion.
The Lions hit back with a Sampie Mastriet try three minutes later and Jaco van der Walt added the extras to make the scores level at 7-7.
The Lions then took the lead in the 33rd minute as Albertus Smith crashed over to give them a lead for the first time in the match.
Van der Walt added the extras and after a period of sustained pressure they were leading 14-7.
Griquas fought back quickly scoring a try through Tian Meyer.
Prinsloo converted the kick and they went into the break at 14-14.
The match went into a lengthy quiet period, before the Lions slotted over a penalty off the boot of Jaco van der Walt – during the period that Griquas were down to 14 men after RJ Liebenberg was sin-binned.
Jaques Nel scored a 63rd minute try to put the Lions ahead 22-14, with Van der Walt once again hitting the upright with his conversion.
Dylon Frylinck managed to give the Lions a scare with three minutes left in the match after he went over for a try to make the score 22-19.
The Lions were never going to give up their unbeaten record this season as they ran in one more converted try, scored by Nel, his second of the match.
Man of the Match: Jaques Nel was brilliant on attack and his two tries just put the match to rest for the Lions.
