The 21-year-old has already made five Super Rugby appearnces for the Cheetahs and holds three Vodacom Cup caps for Free-State while he was on loan from the EP Kings.

Petersen's inclusion sees Clayton Blommetjies move to fullback in place of the injured Adriaan Coertzen. Coertzen has been ruled out with an ankle injury.

The only other forced change to the starting line-up is Gerhard Olivier coming in at openside flank for the injured Johannes Prinsloo (broken jaw).
