Sarel races away with awards
Springbok fullback Willie le Roux has been named the Cheetahs player of the year for 2014, but scrumhalf Sarel Pretorius claimed three awards of his own.
Willie le Roux was also short listed for IRB Player of the Year alongside fellow Springbok Duane Vermeulen but he ultimately lost out to All Black lock Brodie Retallick.
Pretorius' enjoyed another seller season impressing both in the Super Rugby and in the Currie Cup where he scored seven tries and as such picked up the prizes for both those tournaments.
He was also elected as the Players' Player of the year.
The Cheetahs also celebrated the capping of three new Springboks from their Union with Loodewyk de Jager, Teboho and Cornal Hendricks al playing their parts in the June and November Tests as well as the Rugby Championship.
The Cheetahs also unveiled their Super Rugby kit for the upcoming 2015 season which focuses on the team’s two distinct colours – orange and ‘poublou’ turquoise, rounded off with purple numbers and trimmings – but with a shift to orange for the home kit.
Kobus le Roux, Sales and Marketing Executive for the Cheetahs said: “Even though the orange jersey will be labelled as ‘Home’ and the Turquoise jersey as ‘Away’,we will play with both jerseys throughout the competition as required.
"This means our home fans will see us in both jerseys in Bloemfontein and we will also use both jerseys on tour. "
