Varsity Cup prop for Griquas
Injuries have once again forced Griquas coach Pote Human to turn to club rugby for player resources.
Human named Ewald van der Westhuizen at tighthead prop in his starting XV, with Nick Schonert ruled out for three weeks with concussion.
Van der Westhuizen is a talented young front row forward who featured in the University of Johannesburg team in this year's Varsity Cup.
Another Varsity Cup prop, University of Stellenbosch import Brendan Pitzer, will provide cover on the bench.
Human felt he needed a "recognised tighthead" among his replacements. Matthew Dobson can cover hooker and loosehead prop.
The starting team shows four changes in all, from the one which lost 13-19 to Western Province at Newlands last week.
In the backline Richard Lawson comes in on the right wing for the team's first-choice goal-kicker, Nico Scheepers, who has been ruled out with a hamstring injury.
Veteran JP Nel returns at centre in place of Jean Stemmet – who has been ill all week, but will play off the bench if needed.
The final change is rotational – Marnus Hugo starting at scrumhalf ahead of Jacques Coetzee, who drops down to the bench.
