Pead included in Lions' Currie Cup squad
NEWS: Junior Springbok scrumhalf Haashim Pead has been included in the Lions’ Currie Cup squad following his outstanding performances at the Under-20 World Championship.
The Lions announced their Currie Cup squad on Wednesday and did not waste time adding Pead’s name to the list after his outstanding performance in Italy.
He was named Player-of-the-Tournament after the Junior Boks beat New Zealand in the Final to lift the trophy for the first time since 2012.

The scrumhalf scored six tries and assisted four during the tournament. He also surpassed France star Antoine Dupont’s record for running metres by a scrumhalf at the tournament, racking up 232m from 15 carries during the pool stages.
Pead was also invited to the Springboks’ training camp ahead of their home Rugby Championship matches against Australia.
Veteran hooker Jaco Visagie will once again lead the Lions, while Mziwakhe Nkosi will coach the side once more after a successful campaign last year, which saw them fall short against the Sharks in the Final.
The Lions have picked a blend of youth and experience that includes some old hands like Morgan Naude, Renzo du Plessis, Jarrod Cairns, Darrien Landsberg, Siba Zoma, Kade Wolhute, Gianni Lombard, Tapiwa Mafura, Rabz Maxwane and Manuel Rass, to name a few.
The Lions host the Sharks at home at Ellis Park on Saturday in what can be seen as a grudge rematch after last year’s Final.
