Makhaza , who was recently named both the 2025 Varsity Cup player of the year and backline player of the Year, played a pivotal role in the Ikey Tigers’ emphatic 44–21 victory over Maties in the Varsity Cup Final at the Danie Craven Stadium in Stellenbosch.

He contributed a remarkable 32 points in the Final, bringing his season tally to 155.

It marks the second consecutive year that Makhaza was Varsity Cup player of the year, and his third consecutive Varsity Cup Final.
