VIDEO: Province inspires next generation through history lesson
WATCH as Western Province hooker Scarra Ntubeni speaks about their approach to inspire the youngsters in their Currie Cup squad.
Western Province will kick-off their Currie Cup campaign against their old foe the Bulls at the Cape Town Stadium on Saturday.
Whilst their squad hasn’t been announced yet, forwards coach Brok Harris confirmed that their squad’s make-up won’t feature regular United Rugby Championship players.
The Cape side opted to use players from their junior systems and the local club sides for the duration of the campaign.
The 34-year-old Ntubeni, who made his debut for the blue and white hoops back in 2011 and won three Currie Cup titles in 2012, 2014 and 2017, now forms part of one of the senior leaders of the side.
Ntubeni said that they gave the youngsters a bit of a history lesson by taking them to the union’s former home, Newlands Stadium.

“The Currie Cup took a bit of a dip, but it is the oldest [provincial] tournament and there’s a lot of history.
“We went to Newlands [Stadium] three weeks ago and gave the players a bit of a history lesson so they can absorb that they’re playing for Western Province.
“With all the history, they should take it quite seriously, and this is something a lot of them wanted.
“They’ve written down some stuff and we went through some of it, and for a lot of them this has been a dream come true.
“For them, it’s just to learn as much as they can and grab the opportunity with both hands.
“The season goes by so quickly, so we encourage them to work hard, make memories and have no regrets at the end of the season knowing that they’ve given it their all”
