Bordeaux suffer Springbok setback ahead of Champions Cup quarterfinal
INJURY UPDATE: Bordeaux Bègles’ Champions Cup quarterfinal against Toulouse just got a little bit more challenging with the news regarding Springbok midfielder Rohan Janse van Rensburg.
The 31-year-old made a brief appearance off the bench during Bordeaux’s dominant 64-14 victory over Leicester Tigers in their Round of 16 clash.
Janse van Rensburg had replaced Yoram Moefana, but his impact was cut short when he was forced off the field almost immediately in visible distress. He later left the stadium on crutches.
According to French online news outlet Sud Ouest, the former Lions midfielder has suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon – an injury expected to sideline him for the remainder of the season.
The timing is far from ideal for Bordeaux, who are already without France centre Nicolas Depoortere due to a shoulder injury, further stretching their midfield resources ahead of a crucial knockout fixture.
