Lions win bidding war for Bok's signature
Positive news continues to roll out of Johannesburg, with yet another key player choosing to extend his stay at the Lions.
On Monday, the franchise announced that Springbok Ruan Venter had signed a new deal that keeps him at Ellis Park until June 2028. Just a day later, the Lions confirmed that another of their Test stars has followed suit.
The star is Quan Horn, who has signed a contract that will also run until June 2028.
Horn has been one of the Lions’ most consistent performers in recent seasons, quickly establishing himself as one of the most sought-after young backs in South African rugby.
The 24-year-old – who made his Springbok debut against Portugal in 2024 – attracted serious interest from both the Bulls and Sharks, while several overseas clubs reportedly joined the bidding race.
But the Lions stood firm, fending off local and international competition to secure the services of one of their brightest talents.
For Horn, staying in Johannesburg is about more than loyalty – it’s a strategic call.
The one-cap Springbok will be hoping that remaining in South Africa keeps him firmly in the national selection frame as the road to the 2027 Rugby World Cup begins to take shape.
