Blues strike a blow for Wales
Cardiff Blues boss Phil Davies declared his side's win over Glasgow Warriors as "a great win for the Blues region and for rugby in Wales as well."
With the game in Wales in the grip of a financial crisis and mass player exodus the Blues are flying the flag with their recent win over reigning European Cup champions Toulon and their back-to-back double over PRO12 rivals Glasgow.
It may not have been the prettiest victory in the Blues' European Cup history, but Rhys Patchell's amazing 62 metre penalty, and two more from the ever-reliable Leigh Halfpenny, were enough to see off the Scots.
"To come here and get the result is magnificent for the players and they deserve every accolade they get. It wasn't pretty at times, but our defence again was resolute throughout," said Davies.
"We're trying to be competitive and consistent, and there is a lot of work going in. The guys on the shop floor, the coaches and the players, are all working exceptionally hard in all of the regions.
"It's tough, but we've proven with 13 quality players out that we've got a squad that may be very young, but is developing all the time. These last couple of results have been fantastic and we're moving forward."
Their third win in a row in Pool Two moved the Blues to the top of the table ahead of Toulon's home clash with Exeter Chiefs. Davies has to take his team to Toulon in Round Five before hosting the Chiefs in the last Pool game.
