Carter not getting carried away

However, he refused to get carried away with Racing 92's 33-3 victory over Northampton Saints in theuir Champions Cup Round Three match.

The French club's second successive bonus point win took them to the top of Pool Three, but not even a convincing 30 point triumph was going to let World Cup winner Carter get ahead of himself.

"We know it's going to be pretty tough next week at Northampton, so it's important that we recover well," Carter said.

"We'll enjoy this victory, but we'll be concentrating on the return match – we've won nothing and it's another huge game for us next weekend," he added.

Carter kicked three conversions for his new club on his return to European rugby.

He made his debut in the European Cup for Perpignan seven years ago, scoring 16 points in a win over Leicester Tigers.

This was Racing 92's third successive victory over Saints and if they can make it four in a row on Friday at the same Franklin's Gardens venue at which they won 32-8 last season, then they would be in the driving seat in their pool.

"I was a little bit nervous before the game," admitted Carter, adding: "But the team made it pretty easy for me by the way they stepped up.

"The legs were a bit heavy and my lungs were blowing a bit but after six weeks not playing it was good to get back out there.

"The first kick from the touchline wasn't that easy, but I just went through my usual routine and I was pretty happy that it sailed through. That took a bit of weight off my shoulders.

"I really enjoyed the experience. The crowd were good, it's been an awesome first couple of weeks and now I just want to keep playing.

"We've a great bunch of guys and there's a really good camaraderie in the squad. We've lots of amazing individual players from different countries, there's plenty of unity and overall, it's a lot of fun for me to here."
