Ford: Toulon must switch to overdrive
The French giants were 31-20 bonus-point winners over their Welsh opposition, Guilhem Guirado scoring the crucial fourth try early in the second half.
But despite watching his team keep up the pressure on unbeaten pool leaders Saracens with yet another win, Ford wasn't a happy man.
"I'm not relieved, I'm a little bit frustrated," Ford said.
"We never controlled the second half, but I'm also respectful of the Scarlets and we got a bonus-point win," he added.
"You're always looking for perfection and in rugby you never get it but that doesn't mean you stop looking. We know what's coming next week in Wales.
"They'll have a big passionate crowd behind them and we haven't won away yet under me. It's a huge challenge but one we'll look forward to. We've scored a lot of points at home and we've left several tries out there so the signs are good but we need to win next week."
Toulon moved into a comfortable 24-13 half-time lead thanks to tries from Mamuka Gorgodze, Leigh Halfpenny and Romain Taofifenua.
Guirado added a fourth after the break, while Mathieu Bastareaud put in a man-of-the-match display alongside Ma'a Nonu in the centre.
Halfpenny booted 11 points, with Ken Owens and John Barclay responding with visiting tries.
"I thought there were some big performances, especially Mathieu Bastareaud and Ma'a Nonu," Ford added.
"Bastareaud was outstanding. I coached against him with England and I asked him before the game what his point of difference is. I think he had a good think before the game.
"His point of difference is leaving defenders on the ground and you can see in the way him and Ma'a Nonu are playing it's fantastic. He's set the standard now and has to play to the same level next week."
Toulon travel to Llanelli for the return fixture on Sunday, and Ford said: "I am satisfied. We've got a few knocks and bruises but no injuries and we're going to focus on the next game.
"We're going to have to prepare even better than we did this week. It's a massive game for us next week. They'll come out fighting as the proud Welshman that they are.
"But I'm pretty pleased with the way we're scoring tries and we'll enjoy."
