Montpellier on a forward charge

Montpellier forwards coach Mario Ledesma believes he has a pack of forwards capable of taking on any team in Europe – starting with Toulouse.

Their chances of making a major impact in the tournament this season took a major dent when French international outside half Francois Trinh-Duc broke his leg in the Top 14.

"We have lost our outside half with a broken leg and that is a huge blow for us. We've only got a couple a youngsters behind Francois Trinh-Duc and it is going to be a big ask for someone like Enzo Selponi to step up in the Top 14 and Europe.

"Our two scrumhalves have a little bit of experience at playing at flyhalf and we might have to go out and find a medical joker.

"Our Pool shows just how tough it is going to be to win the European Rugby Champions Cup this season. We start at Toulouse and then have to face two teams who are at the top of their respective leagues and have become used to winning.

"Bath look like the complete side and they are a really exciting team. Their forwards have improved and they have so much fire power behind the scrum – and that's before Sam Burgess slots in.

"Glasgow have improved season on season and have a really settled side and look comfortable with the style that Gregor Townsend has brought in.

"But I'm really confident with the way our forwards are going and the work they are putting in. We have lost Mamuka Gorgodze, but we've added Ben Mowen, Tom Donnelly and Antoine Battut.

"Ben is a really world class player who offers so much both on and off the field," he said.
