Pivac rues key errors in loss
The Scarlets had their chances to claim a vital away win at Franklin's Gardens but were made to pay for missed opportunities as they came up short.
The Welsh side missed 11 points worth of kicks at goal through flyhalf Steven Shingler and fullback Aled Thomas, and also failed to make the most of the yellow cards shown to the Saints pair of wing George North and flank Jamie Gibson.
Wales scrumhalf Gareth Davies continued his fine try scoring form with an excellent second half finish, while Shingler added two penalties to ensure the visitors picked up a losing bonus point that may yet prove valuable in the long term. But Pivac knows they could easily have got more out of the game.
"Errors cost us as well as a little bit of game management. We made a few mistakes when we were not under pressure, especially in that first half. It started with a missed kick to touch in an attacking situation, then we are on the defensive and they score the first try. They are areas we are going to need to tidy up moving forward.
"At half-time we talked about our discipline and I thought we were inaccurate at the breakdown on the first half. In the second half, we got some turnovers and there were good things in our game. But we need to tidy up our errors before we play Racing [in the next match], which being at home, has now become a massive game for us in terms of how the pool pans out," the New Zealander said.
