Rossouw to call it a day

World Cup winning Springbok Danie Rossouw has announced that he will retire from professional rugby at the end of the European season.

The versatile forward, who is equally at home at lock, flank or eighthman, will finish the season at RC Toulon before hanging up his boots.

Rossouw missed the beginning of the season after suffering from hip osteoarthritis which kept him out for four months, but once he returned, the 35-year-old (he will be 36 in a week) has impressed with a string of dominant performances in the French Top 14 and the European Cup.

Roussow has ensured that he will give his all until the full time whistle blows in his last game.

"I have made my decision," Rossouw told French publication La Provence.

"I am going to stop, this is my last season.

"I'm going to take part in the remaining games and I will give everything," Rossouw added.

Rossouw's Toulon side could give him the perfect send-off into retirement as they eye an historic 'double'.

Defending champions Toulon will face Saracens in the final of the European Cup and they also sit at the top of the standings in the Top 14 and have a home semi-final on the horizon.

Rossouw played 63 times for the Springboks and scored 10 tries in an International career that started at the 2003 World Cup in Australia and ended at the 2011 World Cup in France.

In between, Rossouw won a Tri-Nations and a British and Irish Lions series with the Boks in 2009 to go with the 2007 World Cup.

He was a dedicated servant of Bulls rugby and managed to win three Super Rugby titles with the Pretoria-based side.
