Scarlets ready to show some heart

The Scarlets will have plenty of pride to play for when they clash with defending champions Toulon in their final match of the campaign at Parc y Scarlets.

The 40-23 defeat by former double European champions Leicester Tigers at Welford Road left the Welsh club on eight points from five group games but head coach Wayne Pivac was adamant he was proud of their never-say-die determination.

"The boys wanted to move the ball around and I thought in the first half in particular, when we had possession, we made good in-roads," he said. "We got a good try and it was game on at half time.

"It was pleasing to see the guys keep working away, scoring another good try towards the end and nearly a fourth one.

"In terms of the 80 minute performance we're obviously disappointed with their tries from set piece but I thought the boys played well.

"The sorts of players that are missing do make a difference, you're talking about a lot of international players in certain positions.

"The team we had out there was what we had to work with and over the 80 minutes, generally speaking, they put up a pretty brave effort."

The Scarlets were without fullback Liam Williams, captain Ken Owens, fellow hookers Emyr Phillips and Kirby Myhill, Wales tighthead props Samson Lee and Rhodri Jones, South African lock Johan Snyman and scrumhalf Gareth Davies.

Five of Leicester's six tries came when the Tigers opted for either line-outs or scrums following penalties – the Scarlets unable to cope with the power of their opponents.
