Toulon apologise, Castro banned?

Toulon president Mourad Boudjellal has said he will apologise to Leicester for Martin Castrogiovanni's outburst towards head coach Richard Cockerill.

Castrogiovanni launched a stinging attack on Cockerill in an outburst which contained several expletives.

Castrogiovanni's outburst referred to his departure from Leicester to Toulon ahead of the 2013-14 season and while he has since apologised for his tirade, it could see him suspended.

Reports in La Provence newspaper say Castrogiovanni has been banned for three days by his club Toulon, a time-frame which could see him miss the return leg on Saturday, and he has also been hit with a financial penalty.

Tournament organisers European Professional Club Rugby are also looking into his comments so he could yet be hit with a further sanction.

Toulon are weighing up whether to take action against the prop and Boudjellal has apologised to the Tigers.

"I was very surprised by Martin's behaviour," Boudjellal said.

"This is not the boy I know. It was clear that he was disappointed, but he used bad language. I did not expect that.

"We are sending Leicester and Richard Cockerill a letter of apology and I will be meeting the player with Bernard Laporte [the Toulon head coach] to decide whether to take any action.

"Some form of sanction cannot be ruled out."
