Toulon fires warning shot
Europe has been placed on high alert after Toulon made it clear their eyes are firmly set on claiming the treble.
Toulon captain Carl Hayman has claimed there is still a burning desire to win more silverware at the club despite doing the League and Cup double last season, making it two consecutive European titles.
"Three in a row is definitely possible. There is a long way to go before we start talking about that, but it is definitely an aim – it's why we are here and what we get paid for! We will prepare well and not take anything for granted.
"We are still motivated and keen to do well. After a year like the double we are keen to win some more silverware – and do the double double if possible.
"It doesn't happen that often for a reason. It is a long old slog in the Top 14 and it is very hard to aim to win both competitions. We don't have the luxury of resting players as some teams have been able to do in the past in the PRO12.
"The owner keeps us well motivated and loves to keep us on the edge. The pools are going to be very tightly contested this season and so it is important to get as many points as possible at home.
"We start against the Scarlets and we know from their win at Harlequins last season that they can be very dangerous," he said.
Toulon were beaten 21-10 in their European dress rehearsal at Toulouse on Sunday as they lost the top spot in the Top 14 to Clermont Auvergne. But far from being a hindrance, Heyman believes the defeat could be just the kick up the backside his side needs.
"It was just one of those nights that didn't go well for us. We will write it off and look to improve against the Scarlets," he added.
"The scoreboard hurt more than the body. It just shows that you can never write off Toulouse. They have some great players and that win will be good for them. It will just make us come back this week and work a bit harder," he added.
