Townsend plays down Bennett fearsThe 22-year-old started all five games in last year's edition of the competition and was a key member of the Scottish team that reached the quarterfinals of the World Cup.

And Townsend is optimistic that he will not be out long-term despite the initial concerns.

"It's better now, but obviously it's a concern he went off," Townsend said.

"He's a key player for us and Scotland, so we'll see how he reacts over the next couple of days."

Scotland kick off their Six Nations campaign at Murrayfield with a Calcutta Cup clash against England on February 6.

They will be looking to improve on last year's winless campaign in their second season under Vern Cotter.
