Townsend plays down Bennett fears
The young Scotland centre suffered a shoulder injury late on in Paris as Glasgow lost to Racing 92 in the European Cup competition, and there were concerns that it ould be a serious problem, with the Six Nations now less than a month away.
The 22-year-old started all five games in last year's edition of the competition and was a key member of the Scottish team that reached the quarterfinals of the World Cup.
And Townsend is optimistic that he will not be out long-term despite the initial concerns.
"It's better now, but obviously it's a concern he went off," Townsend said.
"He's a key player for us and Scotland, so we'll see how he reacts over the next couple of days."
Scotland kick off their Six Nations campaign at Murrayfield with a Calcutta Cup clash against England on February 6.
They will be looking to improve on last year's winless campaign in their second season under Vern Cotter.
Bennett scored two tries in last year's competition, including one at Twickenham against England.
