Wright slapped with three-week ban
This followed a disciplinary hearing on Wednesday.
Wright was cited by the citing commissioner Ray Wilton (Wales) for committing a dangerous tackle on the Ulster flank Chris Henry in the 78th minute of the European Champions Cup rescheduled Round One match – at Stade Charles Mathon last Sunday – in contravention of Law 10.4 (j).
The judicial officer, Antony Davies (England), heard evidence and submissions by video conference from Wright, who pleaded guilty to the offence, from the Oyonnax Administrator, Gregory di Marco, the Oyonnax Head Coach, Johann Aunthier, and from the EPCR disciplinary officer Liam McTiernan.
In upholding the citing complaint, the judicial officer found that Wright had committed an act of foul play that warranted a red card.
He determined that that offence was at the low end of World Rugby's sanctions and selected four weeks as the appropriate entry point.
He added one week as a deterrent according to World Rugby's memorandum regarding tackles of this nature, before reducing the sanction by half of the entry point due to Wright's guilty plea, good conduct at the hearing, and clean disciplinary record.
He then imposed a suspension of three weeks.
Wright is free to play on Monday, February 1.
Both the player and EPCR have the right to appeal the decision.
