Video evidence of cheap shot on Evan Roos
WATCH as Racing 92 hooker Feleti Kaitu’u delivers a brutal cheap shot that looks set to rule Springboks Evan Roos out with a cheekbone injury.
Roos is undergoing scans on Monday to determine the extent of what is feared to be a fractured cheekbone.
The incident happened when Roos was carrying the ball up from a ruck, with Racing prop Thomas Laclayat tackling him.
Kaitu’u comes charging in from an angle and with a tucked arm, his shoulder makes contact with Roos’ head.
The match officials – onfield and the TMO – did not react to the incident, which saw Roos immediately clutch his face.
The Bok loose forward completed the game, but afterwards sported some serious swelling.
It was confirmed that he was undergoing scans on Monday.
At the time of writing this article, there was no indication from the organisers, European Professional Club Rugby, if the Racing hooker was cited.
Having started the final round at the bottom of Pool Four, Racing 92 put in a strong performance to beat the Stormers 31-22 and leapfrogged them into a play-off spot.
The Stormers will take no further part in Europe’s top-tier Champions Cup on secondary Challenge Cup.
They will turn their focus to the United Rugby Championship.
