Ewers: Sharks will be a massive challenge
SPOTLIGHT: Zimbabwean-born Stormers loose forward Dave Ewers gave insights on his time in Cape Town and the challenge the Sharks will pose this weekend.
Speaking at a training session on Wednesday in Paarl – Ewers mentioned the subtle differences between European-based sides such as Ulster and Exeter whom he previously represented and the Stormers.
“All in all it’s pretty similar, but I think here [at the Stormers] what I found is attention to detail is really big and everyone meaning to know their roles and stuff.
“That’s something coming into the squad as a new player that I’ve really had to try and get right.”
The former Premiership champion admitted that the coastal showdown against a Bok-laden Sharks outfit will require everything from the Capetonians in order to get a positive result.
“If I’m playing it will be an amazing experience, obviously you have to give them respect by giving your all and performing to the best of your ability.
“Anything short of that you’ll be left wanting, their confidence must be sky high so it’s going to be a massive challenge going to their home stadium and performing there.”

The loose forward fulfilled a childhood dream when joining the Cape side earlier this year and getting a taste of Currie Cup action.
“I grew up in Zimbabwe so it’s always been a dream of mine to play in the Currie Cup in those days,” said Ewers.
“And maybe Super Rugby – obviously times have changed now going into URC.
“The beginning of the season when I came across playing those Currie Cup games which were seen as warm-up games for us going into URC – that was like serious life moments I’ve always looked forward to do.”
Ewers remains positive about the team’s chances in the URC and Champions Cup over the next couple of weeks, despite their poor start in the URC.
“Some results haven’t gone our way but we’ve shown glimpses of what we can do and I think as as group we’re looking to perform more consistently.”
