Jamie Ritchie joins Van der Merwe in Glasgow move
TRANSFER NEWS: Scotland loose forward Jamie Ritchie will link up with South African Ruwald van der Merwe and Australia’s Bayley Kuenzle at Glasgow Warriors this summer after agreeing a deal to join from Perpignan.
As part of head coach Franco Smith’s reshaping of his squad, the former Edinburgh captain has signed a two-year contract with the Scotstoun outfit.
He will add experience to a squad set for significant change, with several senior players departing at the end of the season.
Ritchie, 29, spent 11 years at Edinburgh before a stint in France, where he captained Perpignan in his debut season and played a key role in their fight against relegation.
He resumed the role on his return from a leg injury suffered in Scotland’s Six Nations win over England in February that sidelined him for two months.
Despite being just one year into his spell with the French side, it is believed a break clause in Ritchie’s deal has allowed him to move back to Scotland without Glasgow having to buy him out of his contract.
It is also thought Ritchie was keen to return to Scotland to be closer to his young family.
