Crusaders lock replaces Williams in squad to play Ireland

All Black coach Graham Henry has formally named Crusaders lock Chris Jack in the squad for the two-Test series against Ireland – in Hamilton on Saturday and Auckland next week.

Jack was originally brought into the All Black camp as injury cover last week, but on Monday Jack formally replaced the injured Ali Williams.

According to the All Black medical team Williams has a syndesmosis injury – an ankle strain – which he sustained in training 10 days ago. The Auckland and Blues lock, Williams, is expected to start training next week and will then take Jack's place in the starting XV to play against Argentina in Buenos Aires on June 24.

With the change confirmed, the All Blacks have 24 players in camp to prepare for the first Test against Ireland on Saturday. Next week, a change at hooker is planned when Andrew Hore will replace Anton Oliver in the build-up to the second Test against Ireland in Auckland on Saturday, 17 June.

Oliver is in the starting XV for the Test against Argentina and the XV will travel to Buenos Aires on Thursday, 15 June.
