The 31-year-old signed for the Premiership side in March after initially joining them from the Bulls as he recovered from a long-term injury.

Du Plessis, who will be returning to South Africa, played five times for Bath making his first competitive start in last season’s Premiership fixture at Harlequins

“Jacques has left Bath with immediate effect by mutual consent for personal, family reasons,” said Bath Head of Rugby Johann van Graan.

“I, and the club, wish Jacques the very best for the future and we wish him and his family very well.”
