Jean Kleyn's new team revealed
TRANSFER NEWS: World Cup-winning Springbok lock Jean Kleyn’s move to Gloucester has been confirmed.
After nearly a decade at Munster, the Springbok lock will link up with the English club ahead of the 2026/2027 season
In a statement, the clubs stated: ‘A powerful and uncompromising presence in the engine room, Kleyn brings a wealth of experience at the highest level of the game, representing both Ireland (residency) and South Africa (birth) at the highest level of the game, winning the 2023 Rugby World Cup with the latter.
‘Renowned for his physicality, work rate, and leadership, the 6’8’’ 32-year-old adds significant quality and depth to Gloucester’s forward pack.
‘His arrival underlines Gloucester’s ambition and intent to compete at the top end of the Gallagher PREM.’
Director of Rugby, George Skivington, said: “Jean is a player I’ve admired for a long time. He brings real edge, experience, and a winning mentality, which will be invaluable for our group.
“His physical presence and professionalism will raise standards across the squad, and we’re excited to welcome him to Kingsholm.”
Speaking on the move, Kleyn added: “I’m thrilled to be joining Gloucester Rugby next season. It’s a club with incredible history and a passionate fan base, and the vision shared with me really matched what I was looking for in the next chapter of my career.
“I can’t wait to get started, meet the supporters, and give everything I have for this team.”
Gloucester have been on a spending spree in recent weeks following a dismal season in which they only managed to win two out of 11 games in the Prem and Championship Cup.
Earlier in the month, the club confirmed the signing of hooker Manaaki Boyle-Tiatia on a three-month contract to ease the club’s injury crisis in the specialist position.
Boyle-Tiatia, who has been plying his trade for Waikato in New Zealand in the NPC, was drafted in with the Cherry and Whites losing all three first-team hookers to injury.
He will be eligible for selection for the Champions Cup visit to Toulon this weekend.
The 31-year-old Will Crane was also drafted in from Hartpury for the defeat away at Newcastle Red Bulls, while he also started against Edinburgh.
In December, the club also secured the services of the 33-year-old scrumhalf Dan Robson in the place of Wales international, Tomos Williams, who opted to move on.
At the same time, Gloucester also announced the pending arrivals of Wales captains, Jac Morgan and Dewi Lake.
