Bath brawlers fined
Bath's brawling teammates, new recruit Gavin Henson and Carl Fearns, have been fined for their part in a pub fracas last week.
The English Premiership club released a statement on Wednesday confirming that both received written warnings and were fined.
All the players caught up in the drama – which saw 31-year-old Henson punched by teammate Fearns – have been interviewed at the club's Farleigh House HQ.
"Bath can confirm that, after a thorough internal investigation, the players involved in last week's incident in the city centre have been dealt with via the club's disciplinary process," the statement said.
Bath Chief Executive Nick Blofeld described the behaviour of the duo as "totally unacceptable" and not what the club expect from them.
"The two players involved have taken full responsibility for their actions and they have both received written warnings and fines, and we regard the case as now closed," Blofeld said.
"We want to see the squad focused on pre-season training, the forthcoming Sevens [tournament] and friendlies, and then delivering on the pitch this season."
Players representative Stuart Hooper issued an apology on behalf of the team.
"Clearly what happened last week was inappropriate and there is a collective will amongst the players to put that right and not set such a poor example again."
There has been speculation that the group had been winding each other up over the course of the evening, with a suggestion that Henson had been teased about his appearances on Strictly Come Dancing.
Henson was knocked to the floor by Fearns in an incident caught on video footage which has been seen by thousands of people online.
No complaint has been made to the police about the events of last Wednesday.
Meanwhile England's Rugby Football Union said they were aware of the disciplinary action taken by Bath in relation to the city centre incident involving two of their players last week.
"We have asked one of them, Carl Fearns, a member of the England Saxons EPS in the first half of last season, to attend a meeting with staff at Twickenham concerning his future conduct," the RFU said in a statement.
