Bok remains at Wasps

Since arriving from the Freestate Cheetahs ahead of the 2012/13 season, Johnson has become an integral member of Wasps’ squad and a firm fans’ favourite.

He is in line to make his 150th appearance in black and gold this Saturday, when Wasps play Newcastle Falcons at the Ricoh Arena, and has already scored 175 points for the club.

Johnson, who has won three caps for the Springboks, is equally at home in the back row or at hooker and played a key role in Wasps’ push to the Premiership Final last season.

The South African’s commitment to the club and his teammates is evident for all to see in the way he plays his rugby, renowned for his physicality in defence and attack and his ability to couple barn-storming runs with subtle touches that create opportunities for those around him.

Speaking about the contract extension, Wasps’ Director of Rugby Dai Young said: "It’s fantastic that Ash is extending his stay at Wasps. He is a real team man and plays an important part in our leadership group. His versatility to play at hooker or in the back row has obviously been a huge plus for us and he has really helped us when injuries have hit both positions.

"Perhaps even more valuable to the squad is his character and the way he approaches each game. You can rely on Ash 100% to give everything he has on the pitch and he will always put the squad’s success first. The impact he makes for us whether starting or coming off the bench is really positive and we are delighted that he is keen to continue his development as part of this squad, as we all look to progress and improve.”

On signing a new contract, Johnson said:

"It has been a real honour to represent Wasps for the past six years. It is a massive privilege to have re-signed with the club. I have been at Wasps from the start of this new journey in Coventry and I want to be a part of continuing that journey with the club,"
