Burgess returns to Bath training

Burgess recently spent time in Spain reflecting on his future following a disappointing experience at the World Cup with England.

Reports in Australia on Monday said that Burgess was due to return to his former rugby league club the South Sydney Rabbitohs, who he left late last year in order to switch codes and join Bath.

But Bath head coach Mike Ford said last week that Burgess would remain at the Recreation Ground and he has been included in the club's 41-man squad for this season's European Champions Cup.

Burgess's brother, Tom, said that the 26-year-old had been hurt by scrutiny of his adaptation to union.

"Speaking truthfully, he was probably treated a bit unfairly in my opinion and that's probably what's pushing him away at the moment," Tom said after helping England's Rugby League team to a 26-12 win over New Zealand.

"He's had a week or 10 days off that Mike Ford gave him to refresh him a little bit mentally and he'll assess his options. He's not made any decision as yet. At the moment he's still with Bath."

Burgess was a contentious selection for England's World Cup squad, having only made his international debut in August after switching codes in late 2014.

He was selected by coach Stuart Lancaster at the expense of the more experienced Luther Burrell, but despite impressing against Fiji, he failed to make an impact as the hosts went out in the group phase.
