Care targets more success
Joe Marchant grabbed two tries in front of more than 77 000 fans, while Jack Clifford grabbed a third for the home side but they faced a nervy finish after leading 18-3 early in the second half.
Tries from Gareth Evans, James Hook and Motu Matu'u brought the Cherry & Whites right back into it and Care admitted it was comforting to hear the referee's full-time whistle.
"The overriding emotion is relief. We had ourselves in a really comfortable position in the second half, but we made a few mistakes," he said.
"It was nervy at the end for sure, we seem to like to make it interesting for the 70 000 fans that came along today, they certainly got their money's worth.
"We got a good four points for us, this is a key period for us. We play Worcester on New Year's day, followed by Sale Sharks at home, it's important to get two from two now following today's victory.
"We want to make The Stoop a fortress and make it hard for teams to come to us, we have to go to Worcester and get a difficult win down there on New Year.
"We will then look to welcome Sale to The Stoop after that, these are a key three games for our season."
The last time these two sides met at Twickenham it finished 39-39 and there was no less drama on Tuesday in front of 77 567 fans at the home of England Rugby.
The four points moves Harlequins up to sixth in the Premiership table, three points ahead of Gloucester who have now secured eight bonus points.
Gloucester's Director of Rugby David Humphreys said his side must start picking up wins away from Kingsholm after losing their third league game of the season by four points or less.
"In the last 20 minutes we showed what a good team we are but it's unbelievably frustrating," he said.
"I think in every game away from home we’ve taken something out of it.
"It's been an Achilles heel of Gloucester for the past 10, 12 years winning away from home and we're very close but we’ve got to find a way to win those games.
"We started the game really well, we had lots of field position, we had a line break, we made the decision to go for the corner, we got over the line and knocked the ball on so we probably had to take something from that initial pressure."
