Cipriani hospitalized
Sale Sharks and discarded England flyhalf Danny Cipriani has been hospitalized after being hit by a bus while on a night out in Leeds.
Sale says the player suffered concussion and was kept in hospital overnight to undergo X-rays.
His condition isn't life-threatening and he was discharged from the Leeds hospital early on Thursday afternoon.
British media are reporting that the 25-year-old Cipraini was out with his teammates at Sale on a 16-venue pub crawl and apparently misjudged the speed at which the bus was travelling.
He was wearing fancy dress.
Pictures in the British media showed Cipriani being treated by paramedics while lying on a stretcher in front of a bus, whose entire front widescreen was damaged in the incident late Wednesday.
"A pedestrian suddenly ran into the road and collided with a First Bus travelling at a safe speed," a statement from the bus company read.
"The police have investigated this incident and have reported that First and its driver are not at fault.
"We understand the pedestrian is an England international, and we wish him a speedy recovery."
Cipriani was widely considered the next big thing when he made a stunning international debut for England in 2008, but he fell out of favor with his national team in Martin Johnson's reign – with his form affected by fitness and off-the-field issues.
He recently returned to the English club scene after a spell with Melbourne Rebels in Australia.
During his time at the Rebels Cipriani broke team protocol with wing Richard Kingi and stepped down from the side as a result.
In 2008 Cipriani was seen in a London night club in the early hours of the morning a few days before he was to debut for England.
Controversy has followed the former England flyhalf everywhere and questions are going to be asked after this event.
The Sale Sharks have to play their last game of the Premiership season next weekend against London Wasps.
