Exiles looking abroad for venue

English Premiership club London Irish announced on Tuesday that one of their league matches in the 2015-16 season could take place overseas.

The Daily Telegraph reported that Irish were in "advanced negotiations" over the staging of a game in New York close to St Patrick's Day on March 17 next year.

The newspaper said that the match would be the first in a series of three that Irish, known as the Exiles, would play in the United States over a three-year period.

"The club is exploring the possibility of playing a Premiership game at an alternative venue," a club spokesman said. "As soon as details are confirmed, we will communicate with our supporters."

It would be the first time a Premiership fixture has taken place outside England.

London Irish finished the 2014-15 season in 10th place in the 12-team competition.
