'Hard as nails' Horwill on the mend

The 31-year-old forward asked team medical staff to tape up the injury so he could keep on playing before he was eventually taken off at Welford Road.

Horwill, who has since had surgery, took to Twitter to give an update after stills of his injury went viral on Sunday.

"Finger is looking normal again and all good!" tweeted Horwill. His message continued: "Thanks to Doc @mike_hayton for seeing me on a Sunday. Appreciate all the messages. #COYQ".

Hayton, a specialist hand and wrist surgeon, carried out surgery to repair the damage.

Former Leicester and England flyhalf Andy Goode tweeted a picture of the injury alongside a message saying: "Fair play to @JHorwill playing for @Harlequins, hard as nails asking the physio to tape this up to play on!"

Horwill jokingly replied: "Fair to say my days as a hand model may be over!"
