Ma’afu in hot water again
Salesi Ma’afu of Northampton Saints will appear before an RFU Disciplinary panel charged with striking contrary to Law 10.4(a).
Ma’afu was cited following the Premiership match between Northampton Saints and London Irish on February 13, after striking opposition prop Tom Court in the first half.
The case will be heard by Jeremy Summers as the sole judicial officer on Wednesday.
Ma'afu is not the only one in trouble through the English leagues with Bevon Armitage (Doncaster Knights RFC), Dan Newton (London Scottish) and Stuart Hooper (Bath) all being cited.
Armitage will appear before an RFU Disciplinary panel charged with acts contrary to good sportsmanship, Law 10.4(m).
In a match between Doncaster Knights RFC and Cornish Pirates RFC on February 15 Armitage received two technical yellow cards in one match.
The case will be heard on Thursday on papers only before Samantha Hillas acting as sole judicial officer.
Newton will appear before an RFU Disciplinary panel charged with acts contrary to good sportsmanship, Law 10.4(m) as well.
Newton was cited following a Championship match between London Scottish and Plymouth Albion RFC on February 15 for using inappropriate language directed at the match referee Matthew Carley.
The player was given a yellow card for the incident but was subsequently cited under Law 10.4(m), dissent.
The hearing will be held on Wednesday and will be chaired by Peter Fraser along with Julian Morris and Aidan O’Brien.
Hooper has received a Level 1 citing following the Premiership match between Saracens and Bath Rugby on February 15.
Hooper was given a Level 1 citing (also known as a Citing Commissioner Warning) following an act of foul play (stamping) which, in the Citing Commissioner’s view, narrowly failed to meet the Red Card Test but necessitated further action.
