Mauger improvements at Tigers

Ex-Tigers and New Zealand centre Mauger, returned to the club as head coach at the start of this season after agreeing a three-year deal with the Premiership club. The 35-year-old had previously been assistant coach of Super Rugby side Crusaders in his native New Zealand and Harrison believes Mauger has already made a real impact on the way Leicester play.

"The new structure here is very good for everyone and the boys are enjoying training a lot at the minute and that is beginning to show on the pitch. I think the boys are starting to express themselves more and I include myself in that group and it is great for the club and hopefully great for the sport in England.

"I think Aaron Mauger's arrival has definitely helped us [play more expansively]. We have not gone too far away from what we are traditionally good at – set-piece and our physicality, we still have that there – but there is more focus on using the skills you are born with and playing what is in front of you rather than just going through set-pieces you work on in training.

"It is something that we are still working on and we have not perfected it. It is good that there are still areas that need to improve and hopefully we continue to improve, and that gets us to a Grand Final at the end of the season.

"I want to keep playing regularly in 2016 and the overall goal for me and the rest of the team is to win the Premiership and hopefully Europe as well," Harrison said.

Leicester are currently third in the Premiership and are unbeaten in their last seven matches in domestic and European competitions. They face arguably their toughest game of the season so far on Saturday, with a trip to the unbeaten Premiership leaders Saracens.

"There is more to come from this team. We have definitely grown a lot as a group over the last five or six months and I am sure the other teams are the same. Each season you probably don't start playing your best rugby until the turn of the year, so we have more gelling to come and fine tuning some new systems that are still bedding in for those coming back from injury.

"So we are still improving but our main focus is always on the game in front of us and this week we are just looking at Sarries," he added.
