Mostert saga: World Rugby remains 'hands off'
REACTION: World Rugby has decided, for now, to take a hands-off approach in the Franco Mostert saga.
The tug-of-war between Gloucester and the Golden Lions Company escalated dramatically in recent weeks and World Rugby has been asked to step in.
The Lions are pertinacious in their belief that there are ‘irregularities’ with the contract Mostert signed with Gloucester and said it was negotiated by an agent who has been suspended for three years.
Dominic Rumbles, World Rugby’s Head of Communications, confirmed to @rugby365com that they are aware of the dispute.
However, they are not ready to play referee, just yet.
“We are aware of a complaint from Golden Lions,” Rumbles told this website.
“However, at this time the complaint remains subject to the ongoing dialogue between the relevant member unions and their clubs.”
At this stage, Gloucester is not in possession of a clearance certificate from the Lions or the South African Rugby Union.
Mostert featured in the Springboks’ 29-26 win over France at the weekend and will be in the frame for the encounters with Scotland (this coming Saturday) and Wales (next week).
It means the dispute (or dialogue) will continue to rage on.
It means World Rugby may not be required to intervene till December.
