Prior to his time at Kingsholm, the 30-year-old made 80 appearances for London Irish.

"I’m really excited to be involved with Harlequins, it is a great club with an impressive setup," Murphy said.

"I’ve always admired the way Harlequins play, every player is encouraged to get their hands on the ball and play.

"I’m excited to be a part of that and get going for the new season.”

Confirming the news John Kingston, Harlequins Director of Rugby added: "I am delighted that Dan has chosen to join Harlequins, he will bring a wealth of experience in a key area for the team,"

Harlequins have not disclosed the length of the loosehead's contract.
