Quins sign Stanley from Highlanders

Harlequins have signed Samoa centre Winston Stanley from New Zealand Super Rugby side the Highlanders, the English Premiership club announced on Thursday.

The 26-year-old, who is the younger brother of All Blacks star Benson Stanley, and the cousin of Australian footballer Tim Cahill, will arrive in time for the start of the 2015-16 campaign.

"Winston is a classic case of a player who does the simple things well," said Harlequins Director of Rugby Conor O'Shea.

"He is equally adept at No.12 or No.13 and, with the amount we play with ball in hand, having players in our squad that have Winston's ability ensures we will be better placed to compete on all fronts."

Stanley follows Australia lock James Horwill in signing for Quins.

He triumphed in the Junior World Cup with New Zealand in 2009, but switched allegiances to Samoa last year and scored a try on his debut against Canada.

"I'm thrilled to be joining a quality club with such a proud and long rugby history as Harlequins," Stanley said.

"Having played in the Super Rugby competition previously, the chance to now join Quins is something I am very keen to do.

"The club is very well respected and I am elated to have the chance to contribute, and play alongside world-class players."
